To divide people into camps seems like the antithesis of the inclusiveness and openness I have always experienced and have valued so highly in the IFS community. Having come from a psychodynamic background, I found IFS theory and the teaching methods to be so refreshingly non-pathologizing, non-hierarchical, and richly diverse in valuing the wisdom of each individual without exception (just as all parts are all valuable and belong). I have learned as much or more from members of the community who do not have a formal degree as from those who do. It feels unkind and unfair to suddenly exclude people who do not have certain letters after their name, and I believe the community will be the poorer for it if this new rule becomes the way of the future. I feel for my IFS brothers and sisters who do not deserve to be cast out of the IFS family, and I urge those who set the standards to repeal the recent ruling and set the record straight, including doing the deep repair work that will be necessary.
